I still don’t think we know what we’re talking about when we throw words around like “I love God” or “I adore God” or “I love New York” or “I love skinny jeans.” We live in a world that is itching to rent a husband inside the head of their television set minds. Who wants to have a long term bag of weight sitting around in your life forever. Why, when you can just as easily rent fast food in ‘n out something that you could be completely infatuated with… Without desiring a love that costs us something. We want free love. They want free love. But I want a love that costs me something. Could it be that people in general are afraid of what God might ask of them?
People are still trying to find love in themselves apart from God. The belief that man is inherently good and that good works and good deeds will get you there. The truth is that the good feelings don’t last. People are looking for love in this world but they don’t know what it is, the man Jesus himself.
The world right now is a hospital lover looking for a reality lover to let into its heart. It is a lost romantic lost in the times, vacant and completely jaded by the lies of this world. Looking for the real legitimate thing. Well, Jesus is a lover looking for them.
In doing this tent thing I asked God….what is love anyway? Why do people care?
He said love is surrender.
It’s counting your brother better than yourself. A brother whom you don’t even know. It’s dropping yourself down one notch so that he can be lifted up. It’s dying to yourself. Daily.
And it is a violent thing to love in an age of lovelessness….
